I got my first unsubscriber on Substack the other week, and it was straight after posting one of the most vulnerable posts I had ever posted.
At first, I was disappointed, but honestly a minute later, I thought - YES.
That post was exactly the RIGHT thing to write.
As Charli XCX said post-Glastonbury: ‘The best art is divisive’
And art and life are one and the same. The thoughts of your mind and being paint the colours of your life everyday. And how we project our art is super important in finding the people in our life that connect with our true essence.
And just like how not everyone likes every painting, not everyone can resonate with the realest version of you.
You may have had someone unsubscribe to you in your real life in some way recently. A break up, a disappointment, a betrayal, a disappearance - there are so many ways people can click that unsubscribe button.
Sometimes it’s temporary, and they come back.
Sometimes it’s permanent and you lost a subscriber forever.
Sometimes it’s a part of YOURSELF that has unsubscribed.
But fuck, can’t you see that that is a GREAT thing?
In the metaphorical sphere of life, you have been ‘posting’ things that are authentically YOU.
You didn’t post things just so you could keep this subscriber around for the safety, security, and comfort that it may bring.
You were unafraid to be divisive.
And how cool is that? You’re literally a WALKING PIECE OF ART.
And although your canvas may feel really bloody empty, you’ve got all the colours of the rainbow to start painting with.
Can’t you feel it?
I was provoked to write this post because so many of the closest people in my life are struggling at the moment.
Break-ups, betrayals, confusions and horrifying events.
My Substack unsubscriber is an irrelevant detail in comparison, but let’s use it to show you that the universe only presents you with a problem it knows you can handle.
You may question the timing of bad things happening - but the previous version of you may not have been ready to learn this lesson, or take this issue on by the head.
The loss of something (whether it’s internal or external) is giving you the space to fill it with something NEW and FRESH. Your body and mind are craving it!
So everyday, try take a step towards painting that part of yourself that is raw, empty and needing some colour in your life.
You got this and let me know how this resonates with you in the comments.
Letting go is not about forgetting. It’s about untying yourself from the chains of past pain - Remez Sasson
